EUSA’s Sabbatical Officers

EUSA is a democratic student-led organisation with 32,000 members and has a governance structure designed to ensure that the views of our members are heard and represented effectively.

Each year members elect 4 full time Sabbatical Officers and dozens of student representatives to lead the Students’ Association and represent their interests to the University and beyond.

The elected student leadership works closely with EUSA’s staff to ensure the continued development of our services and activities and to deliver our vision and strategic objectives.

 The 4 Sabbatical Officers  (serving 1 year) sit on a Trustee Board of up to 12 members. The Trustee Board is made up of:

  • the 4 Sabbatical Officer roles are President and Vice Presidents for Services, Academic Affairs and Societies and Activities
  • 3 voluntary External Trustees who may serve terms of 3 years
  • Up to 5 voluntary Student Trustees (2 year terms) who are voted onto the board in yearly elections

As a registered charity EUSA has a Trustee Board that has overall has overall responsibility for the strategic direction, financial stability and legal observance of the organisation.  The Chief Executive reports to the Trustee Board. The responsibility for the management and administration of EUSA is delegated to the Chief Executive and the staff team. The board meets around 6 times per year.

Within EUSA there are three Councils:

  • Academic Council
  • Welfare Council
  • External Affairs Council

There are Action Groups which focus on the needs of:

  • Post-graduate students
  • International students
  • Mature students

We also have the:

  • Campaigns and Accountability Forum: This forum meets monthly and is made up of representatives of the three Councils. It co-ordinates campaigns, discusses issues not covered by the three Councils and holds the sabbatical officers to account.
  • Liberation and Equal Opportunities Forum:  Liberation Groups exist to represent students who have historically experienced various forms of oppression.  The Forum meets monthly to discuss diversity issues and foster greater co-operation between these Groups.
