Hull University Union (HUU) is where student life comes to life for 17,000 students studying at the University of Hull.
Everything we do is to support our members to make their time at Hull count. From the day they arrive on campus they’ll find opportunities to make friends, try something new and build a student life that works for them, therefore we continually measure our impact. How we go about our activity is as important as what we deliver and this is captured in our Values.
We are a student led registered charity with an income of £5million including £2.5million of commercial turnover. We have 5 members of the senior management team (plus the CEO) and employ 215 (including FT, PT and student) staff supporting students to campaign on what’s important to them, get involved in a wide range of student activities and find help when they need it. This support ranges from welfare advice including sexual/mental health and housing to academic representation to the University to employment, volunteering and campaigning. Students unions are pretty unique in what they offer and we are no different. Have a look at our services and our accounts for more details.
We’ve just launched our vision for the future at wemakeitcount, the University is investing £4.8million in our base, Student Central and following twelve months of consultation our new brand will be unveiled for WelcomeFest 2018.
We are the student voice, with annually elected representatives chosen to make that voice heard from 5 full-time officers that lead the Union to part-time reps for every course, school and faculty. They form a key bridge between the student body and the University at a senior level. The student officers are joined by external lay trustees on our Board of Trustees, in providing the strategic guidance, planning and decision making that shapes what we do and delivers against our students’ expectations.
A vibrant, innovative and ever developing organisation we support our members to lead a fulfilling life at Hull. We have over 150 student led activity groups and sports teams, give back through volunteering projects, raise thousands of pounds for good causes, support the rights of minority student groups and raise awareness of causes and issues they care about.
Based in Student Central, HUU is a hub of student activity offering a variety of amenities from one of the busiest SPAR shops in the north with a flexible pub restaurant seating up to 180 guests, a nightclub/live music venue, fast food outlets and two Starbucks concessions.
