Competitive salary dependent on candidate experience
This role is a great opportunity to shape and help build a Students’ Association that can really make an impact nationally. EUSA is a large charity, with annual turnover in excess of £9 million, employing more than 500 staff (many more during the festival) and representing over 32,000 members. We have a long history but it is our potential that really excites us.
We provide an enormous diversity of services: from member focussed services such as advice, academic representation, volunteering and societies, to commercial services such as bars, nightclubs, catering and retail outlets. All reflect the unique EUSA values and offer to our members, the University and our communities. There are very few UK charities that combine such diversity with such great potential.
EUSA has a lot to offer:
Our ambition is to be the best Students’ Association/Students’ Union in the UK. We strive to achieve excellence through:
EUSA has had a difficult recent history. We have moved forward and started to build the foundations of a fantastic organisation. We expect this journey to take time – we want to focus on long term wins and creating a culture of excellence, engagement and delivery.
Key priorities for the new Chief Executive will be:
This is the ideal time to join EUSA. We are all looking forward and are determined to start the process of building a world class student focused organisation. We have the determination, talent, creativity, support and resources to succeed. We now want a new Chief Executive to join this team, to bring the staff leadership and credibility to push us further and faster, providing world class services to our student members .
You will combine a range of experience, skills and personal characteristics that demonstrate how you will lead, manage and shape EUSA going forward. Underpinning your experience will be a strong ethical compass. You will demonstrate strong integrity and values led leadership.
You are likely to have a substantial track record, either as a Chief Executive or Senior Director, in a relevant organisation that delivers diverse services. You’ll need to understand what makes Students’ Associations/Students’ Unions unique, and will really “get” student leadership, but this doesn’t mean you have to currently work in one. You can have worked in any sector, but will have an insight, style, attitude and relevant experience that demonstrates you can succeed in this very different sector. You will positively embrace the way in which students’ unions operate, with democratic governance structures, full time elected student officers, a trustee board and both a supportive and challenging relationship with the University.
You will be an experienced leader and manager, delivering improved services and culture in an organisation or large department. You will bring a substantial track record of shaping strategic direction, managing significant resources, managing risk, developing positive organisational culture, building effective relationships, performance management and developing services which generate a return on investment. You will have good instincts, insight and analysis into how to direct resources which create a positive return. Importantly, you will want to create an engaged and open, high performing culture that values members and staff, bringing them together to make a significant difference.
