I am delighted that you have taken an interest in the role of Finance Director at Leeds University Union. Our current Resources Director is moving on after 4 years and we have reorganised to create the Finance Director role which offers a great opportunity for LUU to build on our existing leadership. 2013-14 is an important year as we embark on a strategic review to create our new Plan for 2014-18 and we are excited to be welcoming two new directors to our team at the same time.
LUU is a highly regarded and successful organisation in our sector and we are keen to build further on our success. We offer students a range of services and our members are at the heart of all that we do. Student members of staff are integral to the running of our shops and bars, over 1000 volunteers organise a whole host of co-curricular activity from sports clubs and language societies to community projects with the elderly. Our Advice Centre ensures there is support for students when things go wrong and we have a strong voice in the University and the wider Community representing students and lobbying for change.
The role of Finance Director is integral to our success over the next few years. We will be looking to this post-holder to ensure leadership of our financial strategy, built upon a disciplined approach to controls and procedures. You will enable effective reporting and processing of our management accounts, with the ability to communicate financial performance to others and identify trends and opportunities. You will be able to develop our approach to risk and although not an expert, you will have the opportunity to shape how ICT can improve performance across the organisation.
The right candidate for this post will be someone who will enjoy the challenge of leading change as part of our senior team and working with our Board of Trustees and Audit and Risk Committee which includes elected students. LUU has a very strong and unique culture and our people are vital to our success. We live our behaviours on a daily basis and seek to ensure all our people are highly engaged and love their work.
